Why Car Warranties are Important
Buying a new or used vehicle is a major event, and you understandably expect that new vehicle to perform well for you over the years. While some wear and tear will occur with regular use that will ultimately lead to repair issues, you expect these issues to occur down the road rather than within the first few years of ownership. Unfortunately, however, some damages can develop that are caused by faulty manufacturing processes or components. Car warranties provide you with the peace of mind that such issues will not be your financial responsibility. As important as an auto warranty is, however, many people do not have a solid understanding of what they are or how they work. At Empire Lakewood Nissan serving Lakewood Denver Aurora Longmont, we are here to help you learn why car warranties are important and to help you exercise the benefits of your vehicle’s warranty if the need arises.

All automotive parts will wear out over time, but they all also have a minimum expected lifetime. What happens when those parts do not perform well up to their minimum expected lifetime? The vehicle may not perform properly, or it could completely stop working in some cases. Car warranties essentially provide drivers with the confidence that a vehicle will perform as intended throughout the length of the warranty period, and any issues related to faulty manufacturing processes or parts will not be the driver’s responsibility. By filing a warranty claim, the driver can get the necessary repair work completed without paying for the services out of his or her pocket. Rest assured that every Nissan is sold with a 3-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year, 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.

What does this mean to you? Some auto repairs could cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. If repair work is not covered by a warranty, it is the driver’s responsibility to pay for it. The last thing that you want to do is to pay for repairs on a new vehicle. With a warranty, however, the covered repairs may be completely paid for by the manufacturer when the repairs are made at the dealership. Keep in mind that you will not need to pay a deductible like you would need to with an insurance claim. Warranties cover the full cost of repairs. This includes parts as well as labor. When you consider why car warranties are important, the matter of vehicle condition should receive attention. Routine maintenance services are crucial for auto care, and so are timely repairs. When a repair issue is addressed soon, additional and related damage may be prevented. This helps you to protect your vehicle’s value and condition going forward.

Types of Car Warranties
While all warranties offer exceptional benefits, the coverage they provide varies. As you prepare to buy your next vehicle, you need to be aware of the type of coverage that is included. These are some of the more common types of auto warranties offered today. Basic Warranty: Your Nissan’s 3-year, 36,000-mile basic warranty covers repair issues to basic parts on the vehicle. This includes breakage to trunk components, door handles, cup holders and a variety of other basic parts. Keep in mind that this breakage should be related to manufacturing issues or faulty parts. Damages related to improper usage will not be covered. Powertrain Warranty: Your Nissan comes with a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. This coverage encompasses powertrain systems and powers, such as the engine, the transmission and other related parts. Generally, if the part is used to make the vehicle run, it may be included under this type of coverage.

Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty: You may also benefit from a bumper-to-bumper warranty on your new car. While this is the broadest type of coverage, it usually has a short term. In many cases, it may cover damages to all parts from bumper to bumper for the car’s first 10,000 miles on the road. Auto-Corrosion Warranty: The auto-corrosion warranty on your vehicle covers any type of corrosion or rust damage that may occur on your vehicle for the warranty period. The coverage is related to defects rather than damage caused by usage.
