Dead Battery? Here's How to Test It

When you have trouble keeping a car battery charged, it can be hard to tell if the problem is the battery or another part of the electrical system. Testing it with a voltmeter is to way to find out.

A good car battery should hold a charge at or above 12.4V DC. Make sure to give the battery a good charge before testing it, so you'll know you're testing its maximum voltage. It's also a good idea to clean the battery's terminals of any corrosion. Disconnect both terminals and use a voltmeter set to DC voltage to test the battery.
